Everyone loves mashed potatoes! Despite this American classic, it’s a nice change to mash some sweet potatoes – not only is it a great taste, it is also healthier and gives you a pop of color on your dinner plate! I like to mix in some roasted garlic and a hint on cayenne to wake up all the flavors. This recipe is creamy, delicious, and you’ll definitely be going back for more. Feel free to double or triple this recipe, it will turn out great every time!

1 head of roasted garlic

3 large sweet potatoes (peeled)

½ teaspoon pepper

¼ teaspoon cumin

½ teaspoon sugar

½ teaspoon garlic powder

¼ – ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper

2 tablespoons butter

½ cup milk

Salt to taste

Roast the garlic.

Chop the peeled sweet potatoes into chunks. Put the chunks into a large saucepan and cover with water. Toss in a small pinch of salt. Put over high heat and cook until the sweet potatoes are tender when pricked with a fork (around 15 minutes). When they are soft, turn off heat and drain water from the potatoes.

Put the sweet potato chunks back in the same saucepan over medium-low heat. Add in the seasonings, butter, and milk. Squeeze in the roasted garlic cloves and a small pinch of salt.

Using a potato masher, mash until everything is creamy and smooth.

Serve and enjoy!
