We’ve all seen those fancy chocolate shops with the expensive chocolate and sea salt creations. What many people don’t know is that you can easily make those chocolate treats at home for a fraction of the cost! The salt makes the chocolate taste more chocolately. Call it “fleur de sel” when you give these truffles to your loves ones, they’ll think you’re a sophisticated chocolatier! With my recipe, all it takes is a few bucks to make over two dozen truffles…and it’s only a few ingredients.

½ cup heavy whipping cream

2 tablespoons butter

8 oz semi sweet chocolate chips

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ teaspoon coarse sea salt

6 oz dark or semi sweet chocolate (for the shell)

In a saucepan over medium high heat, melt the butter into the heavy cream. Remove from the heat and pour this hot cream over the chocolate chips. Stir until the chocolate has melted. Stir in a pinch of sea salt and vanilla. Pour this chocolate mixture into a small tuberware container, cover, and refrigerate for 2 hours (I usually refrigerate this over night). The chocolate will harden, but remain malleable.

Using a melon baller or a teaspoon, scoop out spoon fulls of the chocolate and roll them into balls. Roll in cocoa powder mixed with coarse sea salt 9or sprinkle with just sea salt) and refrigerate for 20 minutes. You can also dunk these truffles into melted chocolate, sprinkle with sea salt, and then refrigerate for 20 minutes. The extra chocolate will create a shell around the soft truffle center (that’s how I like them best…it’s a bit more time consuming though).

Serve cold and enjoy!
