We always have strawberries and basil at my house. Usually I use basil for savory dishes, but every now and then I like to toss it into something sweet to surprise my parents. The basil brightens the flavor of the strawberries, while adding that little touch of something-something people don’t expect in a milkshake. Consider this recipe a more sophisticated version of a regular strawberry milkshake.
1 ¼ cup strawberries (chopped)
1 teaspoon sugar
½ cup milk
1 cup vanilla ice cream
4-5 basil leaves (large)
In a bowl, mix together the strawberries and sugar. Allow this combination to macerate for 10-15 minutes.
Add the macerated strawberries, milk, ice cream, and basil into a blender. Blend until everything is rich and creamy, about 2 minutes.
Serve cold and enjoy!
